Characterization of acute intoxications attended in 2008 and 2009 in the new Clinical Toxicology Centre of Villa Clara, Cuba

A transversal retrospective study was carried out in the new Clinical Toxicology Centre of Villa Clara to study the behavior of acute intoxications from 2008 to 2009. There were analyzed several variables such as: age and sex of patients, municipality and/or province of origin, causes of intoxication, toxicant involved and exposition way. Results showed that in 2008, the most frequent rank of age was 15 to 30 years old in female individuals but in 2009 predominant sex was male. In the causes of intoxication prevailed the medicaments, followed by pesticides and in lesser amount chemical products. The most common causes were intentional ones and digestive via was the most used exposition way.
