The organized contadi. Administration and territoriality of "rural communities" in four districts of Lombardy (1210-1250 ca) I contadi organizzati. Amministrazione e territorialità dei “comuni rurali” in quattro distretti lombardi (1210-1250 circa)

The paper deals with the evolution in the administrations of four Contadi in central and eastern cities of Lombardy (Bergamo, Brescia, Lodi and Mantova). It begins by examining the estate surveys that in the whole area start from the first two decades of the thirteenth century. These surveys will become instruments of knowledge of local territories. In addition it considers the legislation with which the city was seeking to build an active territoriality of the communities in the district. The district is also divided by cities into smaller administrative entities: the rural communities. Il contributo esamina le evoluzioni amministrative di quattro città della Lombardia centro-orientale (Bergamo, Brescia, Lodi e Mantova) in tema di controllo dei propri contadi. Si considerano dapprima le inchieste patrimoniali che ovunque prendono avvio dai primi due decenni del XIII secolo per poi diventare veri e propri strumenti di conoscenza del territorio. In seguito si valutano i provvedimenti legislativi con cui le città cercano di costruire una territorialità attiva delle comunità del distretto, che a sua volta hanno organizzato in enti amministrativi minori, i comuni rurali.
