Projeto de Mecanismo de Desenvolvimento Limpo: Um Estudo de Caso na Empresa de Energia Eólica do Estado do Piauí

In recent decades the problems with environmental accidents has become a concern due to the consequences it generates on a global scale. The concept of sustainability had as a starting point the ECO-92 Conference, which prompted the search for development models with social and environmental prevalence. The low-carbon economics appears as an option to stop the growth of the Greenhouse Gases Emissions. The third strategy of the Kyoto Protocol refers to the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) that allows countries and organizations to develop projects aimed at sustainable development. According to this situation, the paper aims to investigate how the use of clean energy, such as wind, contributes to the promotion of local sustainability. It establishes, as objective, the investigation of the wind farm installed in Piauí regarding the meet of the Kyoto Protocol requirement. As to its methodological aspects, this is a bibliographical, documentary and case study research. The literature review allowed us to deepen theoretical assumptions related to the topic. The analysis of documents obtained in the case study has shown the state's participation in clean energy generation and use of CDM strategies in the enterprise. The research reveals that the studied wind farm meets the guidelines contained in the Kyoto Protocol and makes use of CDM strategies. It is still verified the contributive work to local sustainability through the concern for education, environmental management and support on social projects in areas related to children, education and environment.
