Experimental Analysis of Mixing Characteristics of Carboxymethyl Cellulose Solution (0.5%) In A Double Jet MixerKeywords: 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose , jet mixer , nozzle angle , radial angle Abstract: In the current set-up, which is 0.5m x 0.4m tank (with liquid filled up to 0.4m), the mixing time was estimated for different nozzle configurations using a 0.5% solution of carboxymethyl cellulose, which obeys the power law. The nozzle configuration deals with the change in the second nozzle (0.005m diameter) angles (30o, 45o and 60o), radial angles (60o, 120o and 180o) and the heights (0.1333m and 0.2667m from the bottom of the tank) at which the nozzle is oriented. The first nozzle (0.01m diameter) is fixed at a nozzle angle of 45o, at a height of 0.2667m from the bottom of the tank and the second nozzle’s orientation is varied with respect to it. The congo red dye solution is used as the indicator. The lowest mixing time of 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose solution was found to be 22.5s, for a nozzle2 angle of 30o, at a radial angle of 60o, at a height of 0.1333m from the bottom of the tank, with respect to a fixed positioned nozzle1.
