Abstract:

Physical solubility of nitrous oxide (N2O) in a novel solvent, Stonvent, was measured at various pressures (1, 10, 45 and 80) bar over a wide range of temperature (303, 313, and 323) K. Solubility measurements were performed using high pressure solubility set -up consists of two high pressure vessels, namely gas pressure vessel for pressurizing and equilibrium cell as reaction chamber. Due to the react ion between CO2 and Stonvent, physical solubility cannot be measured directly. Hence, solubility experiments were conducted using N 2O because of its similarity in molecular configuration, electronic structure and molecular weight with CO2. Subsequently, data obtained were used to estimate Henry’s constant of CO2 in Stonvent using the well-known N2O analogy. Physical absorption capacity of CO2 in Stonvent is significantly higher compared to conventional alkanolamine solvents and binary mixture of alkanolamines. Stonvent showed great potential in CO2 separation from sour gas stream. Results also demonstrate that Henry’s constant of CO2 in Stonvent decreases with decreasing temperature and increasing pressure
