Abstract:

This paper presents the design of variable structure control (VSC) based Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for Single Machine Infinite Bus (SMIB) system. Optimal VSC based PSS has been tuned to minimize the low frequency oscillations in torque angle deviation using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The robustness and effectiveness of the designed controller is verified by the change in the operating points. The results of the simulation show that the proposed controller has significantly improved the power system stability.
