Abstract:

One of the most beautiful, perfect and productive relationships is the one taking place between music and literature which is something that started in ancient times. The interaction between the two arts has offered endless results. In fact, through this partnership for instance, we can speak about several musical forms such as the Lieder (sung poems with piano accompaniment) which was of so much use throughout the Romantic period; the Opera and its evolution enriched with its various stages, forms and composers; the Zarzuela which emerged in Spain as a variant of the Opera; we cannot forget about the Ballet, Theater and so on. We are not intending to deepen into any of these fields, however in the next few lines we are going to take a journey through time and history in order to observe the evolution of that relationship.
