El 26 de mayo del 2012 tras un accidente automovilístico, falleció en la ciudad de Trujillo, provincia Trujillo, departamento La Libertad, Perú, el profesor doctor Abundio Sagástegui Alva, uno de los más connotados científicos peruanos. Esta inesperada desaparición causó profundo pesar en la comunidad científica nacional e internacional, pues nos había dejado un verdadero maestro, científico, e investigador botánico, además de un ser humano de gran calidad. On May 26, 2012 after an accident, died in the city of Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru, Professor Dr. Abundio Sagástegui Alva, one of the most distinguished Peruvian scientists. This unexpected disappearance caused deep regret in the Peruvian and international scientific community, because we had left behind a true master, scientist, and botanist, and a human being of great quality.
