In the works of Mia Couto, the spaces and times take us to a hybrid Mozambican cultural identity, in which the elements from Bantu and European traditional culture, among others, mix. From the cronotropic Bakhtinian concept, we analyse the diversity in the images of the African river and house that appear in the short story "Nas águas do tempo" (n.t.: “In the waters of time”) as privileged times and spaces, conforming to a paradigmatic narrative that highlights the main compositional traces of the Couto production in the last years.
