The following article pretends to show certain key concepts and topics in Octavio Paz’s essayist work, in order to profile what we are going to call “his interpretation about history”. We back up the idea that the author sets out a vision of history, in which the transition to modernity leads to the loss of an original situation of men and world communion and the others. The research of the lost unit is not only the last reason of the poetic and intellectual work of Paz, but also the interpretative key in which the author approaches to Latin America history.
