A Novel Technique for Identification of Transients by using Wavelet

In Electrical power system, whenever the voltage level goes below the desired level, there is need to improve the voltage profile. Voltage profile can be maintained by switching ON/OFF a capacitor bank/s. These switching actions, if not specifically controlled, introduces transients into the network and end users equipments. This paper presents a method to distinguish between transients arising because of capacitor switching and line to ground (L-G) fault. Feasibility of the proposed disturbance detection approach is demonstrated based on digital time-domain simulation of a distribution power system using the PSCAD software. Finally wavelet transform discriminates the type of event on the basis of energy levels.
