A Novel Technique for Identification of Transients by using WaveletKeywords: Capacitor Switching , L-G , transient analysis , PSCAD , MATLAB , discrete wavelets transform Abstract: In Electrical power system, whenever the voltage level goes below the desired level, there is need to improve the voltage profile. Voltage profile can be maintained by switching ON/OFF a capacitor bank/s. These switching actions, if not specifically controlled, introduces transients into the network and end users equipments. This paper presents a method to distinguish between transients arising because of capacitor switching and line to ground (L-G) fault. Feasibility of the proposed disturbance detection approach is demonstrated based on digital time-domain simulation of a distribution power system using the PSCAD software. Finally wavelet transform discriminates the type of event on the basis of energy levels.
