Examination of Internet Addiction among Computer Department Staff in Terms of Duration and Purpose of Its Use

Internet addiction of the computer department staff who are supposed to spend time in front of their computers and on the Internet because of their jobs is an issue that provokes interest. Moreover, the present study aims at investigating the relationship of Internet addiction among individuals spending long time on the Internet due to their jobs with the duration and purpose of their Internet use. The sample included 41 academicians from the department of computer at Anadolu University and Osmangazi University. The study was conducted in the Spring Term of 2009-2010. The present study tries to find answers to these questions; ‘Is it appropriate to use the term “addicted” for individuals using the Internet for a long time?’ and ‘What is the relationship between Internet addiction and purpose of Internet use?’
