When we think about the relationship human/animal we have to first ask ourselves, what is actually meant by the following passage in Genesis: “Be fruitful and increase in numbers and fill the earth and subdue it.” A mystical approach to the Bible, however, would in no way conclude that human beings should make the world of animals subservient to us. Rather, we should subordinate the phases of the instinctive and the un-reflected, in ourselves and in nature, that are relics of earlier epochs, to the mind.
