Breaking walls or opening doors? The collaboration of an extension project for the empowerment of Local Health Councils

Exploratory-descriptive study of qualitative character that analyzed how people of two communities in Florianopolis , State of Santa Catarina, Brazil, directly involved in their daily lives with the local health councils, realized the work with an extension project of interdisciplinary health education. This experience of extension was built on a horizontal, critical and reflective proposal, which sought to promote bilateral contribution to the students and communities, and this study aims to reveal how is understood by them Eight people were interviewed among counselors and community leaders who participated directly in this process. The semi structured interviews were transcribed and initially treated by Content Analysis and reanalyzed by Hermeneutic-Dialectic, which allowed the criticism and overcoming the results, and four categories/ synthesis emerged. From one of these categories: Empowerment of local health councils by extension, the analysis showed that the academy, opening doors and providing extension projects in the community, is fulfilling the transformative role in society.
