Controlled Release Drug Delivery Systems

The controlled release drug delivery market is expanding rapidly with an active and aggressive esearch in the drug delivery field. The controlled release drug delivery systems (CRDDSs) offer numerous advantages compared to conventional immediate release dosage forms, including potential or reduced side effects and toxicity by minimizing peak plasma drug concentrations, greater onvenience and higher levels of patient compliance due to simplified dosage schedule. The present communication highlights a brief but comprehensive review of various aspects of controlled release rug delivery systems (CRDDSs) designing and development. General classification, designing, drug release mechanisms and biomaterials used in fabrication of CRDDS are briefly outlined.
