Saya est le nom d’un robot anthropomorphe développé par le professeur Kobayashi de l’université de Tokyo. Le professeur fait ici la démonstration de son robot-institutrice devant une classe d’élèves. Cette démonstration qui tourne mal fournit le point de départ pour l’auteur d’une réflexion sur la virtuosité des machines. Artiste et plasticien, ce dernier s’interroge sur la filiation entretenue par la démonstration de Saya avec le test de Turing et sur l’ambigu té entre l’homme et la machine qui hante toute démonstration en robotique. Une relation s’établit ici, durant la démonstration, avec le public où tout le monde semble s’accorder spontanément sur le fait que le faux doit faire effet de réel. L’observation d’une démonstration qui échoue est une formidable opportunité pour saisir en quoi les démonstrations en robotique ont besoin de cette confusion ontologique (entre l’homme et la machine) pour produire des effets de virtuosité. Saya is the name of an anthropomorphic robot developed by Professor Kobayashi of Tokyo University. The Professor demonstrates here his robot-teacher before a class of students. This demonstration gone wrong provides the starting point for the author to reflect on the virtuosity of machines. He questioned the link maintained by the Saya demonstration with the Turing Test and the ambiguity between man and machine that haunts every demonstration in robotics. A relationship is established here, during the demonstration, with the public in which everyone seems to agree voluntarily on the fact that what is fake must look real. The observation of a failed demonstration is a tremendous opportunity to capture the way robotics demonstrations need this ontological confusion (between man and machine) to produce effects of virtuosity.
