Des sons et des esprits-ma tres en Amazonie amérindienne Sounds and master-spirits in native Amazonia

Partant d’un examen comparatif des terminologies concernant la notion d’esprits-ma tres et l’agentivité dans diverses régions des basses terres amazoniennes, l’article s’attache ensuite à décrire plus précisément les formes particulières — essentiellement sonores — de communication et de contr le des esprits chez les Yagua de l’Amazonie péruvienne. Cet examen permet de saisir l’importance du champ sonore et de la ma trise des sons dans ces cultures comme l’un des éléments constitutifs des formes de contr le et de communication avec les non-humains. Beginning with a comparative examination of terminology related to the notion of master-spirits and agency in diverse regions of the Amazonian lowlands, the article then attempts to more precisely describe the particular, essentially sonorous forms of spirit communication and control used among the Yagua of the Peruvian Amazon. This examination enables an understanding of how the sound field and sound mastering are important elements constituting forms of control and forms of communication with non-humans.
