Neutron Interaction Cross-Sections for 27Al in the Energy Range from 0.2 to 22 MeV Using Optical Model Program

Abstract:

Neutron total and differential elastic scattering cross-sections for 27Al nucleus were calculated fromdifferent global spherical optical potential (SOP) sets for different neutron energies ranging from 0.2MeV to 22 MeV using the well-known computer program SCAT-2 along with an IBM-PC-AT. Inaddition, the angular distributions of elastically scattered neutrons at different neutron energies werecalculated. The results were compared with those of the experimental data obtained from the EXFORdata file of NEA data bank. The best-fit potential parameters were thereby selected. It was observedthat the best fit to the experimental values of the total cross-sections are obtained by SOP parametersof Fu. Ketrick for 27Al. Furthermore, the variations of the total cross-sections as a function of realpotential depth V0 and real radius parameter r0 were calculated to observe the sensitivity of theseparameters towards the cross-sections.
