O relativismo de Kuhn é derivado da história da ciência ou é uma filosofia aplicada à ciência?

Está longe de ser fácil qualificar uma concep o ou um pensador de relativista. Como Kuhn rejeita ser tachado de relativista, discutiremos o que em sua obra dá ensejo a assim caracterizá-lo. Abordaremos três relativismos em Kuhn - o epistêmico, o ontológico e o linguístico - com o intuito de avaliar se o relativismo em Kuhn é fruto da aplica o de uma filosofia à compreens o da ciência ou se é derivado de uma fidedigna reconstru o histórica da ciência. Entendemos ser fundamental diferenciar o caso em que se emprega uma variante de relativismo filosófico na reconstru o da ciência do caso em que o relativismo é extraído de como a ciência vem sendo praticada. Tentaremos, operando com a distin o entre relativismo filosófico e relativismo metacientífico, demonstrar que as teses basilares de Kuhn s o, quando muito, parcialmente apoiadas pela história da ciência. E também advogaremos que o relativismo kuhniano deve fundamentar-se em última análise em explica es psicológicas e sociológicas para ser solidamente defendido. Although Kuhn rejects being labeled a relativist, I will discuss what in his works justifies so characterizing him. I will explore three kinds of relativism in Kuhn - epistemic, ontological and linguistic - in order to assess whether his relativism is the result of applying a philosophy to the understanding of science, or whether it is derived from an accurate historical reconstruction of science. It is essential to differentiate between a variant of philosophical relativism being employed in the reconstruction of science, and relativism simply deriving from the way science has been practiced. Operating with the distinction between philosophical and metascientific relativism, I will try to show that Kuhn's basic theses are at best partially supported by history of science, and contend that, in the final analysis, kuhnian relativism must be grounded on psychological and sociological explanations in order to be firmly sustained.
