The paper presents an analysis of the consolidation of the direct and itsinflections in the documentary history, including its peak and subsequent trivialization dueto successive appropriations and the exhaustion of its stylistic. Then, inspired by thethoughts of Jean-Louis Comolli, we evaluate the possibilities of its recovering bycontemporary cinema.
