En este artículo se analiza la conformación de la Escuela Correccional de Artes y Oficios de la ciudad de Oaxaca de 1889, a o en que se inaugura por decreto gubernamental, hasta 1901, que cambia de nombre a Escuela Industrial Militar. Aborda las ideas y las medidas que fueron esgrimidas para erigirla como una institución de control social, así como diversos aspectos de su funcionamiento, el tipo de alumnos que recibió y la forma en la que fue utilizada por los padres y familiares de los jóvenes que en ella residían. This article analyzes the creation of the Arts and Trades Correctional School of Oaxaca City during the period between 1889, when it was inaugurated by a government decree, and 1901, when it was renamed as the Industrial Military School. It studies the ideas and measures used to establish it as an institution of social control, as well as various aspects of its modus operandi, the type of students it received and the way it was used by the parents and relatives of the young persons who lived there.
