Abstract:

A simple and sensitive method was presented to electrochemical determination of berberine based on the nano-Na-montmorillonite (nano-Na-MMT) clay modified carbon paste electrode. The electrochemical oxidation and adsorption behavior of berberine was studied at the proposed electrodeby linear sweep voltammetry in acetate buffer (0.2 M, pH 5.6). A differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetric procedure has been developed fordetermination of the drug. A good linear relationship between the oxidation peak current magnitude and the concentration of berberine was observed in the range from 1.0 to 18.0 μgmL-1with detection limit of 0.07 μgmL-1and quantitation limit of0.24 μgmL-1. The proposed method was successfully applied to the determination of berberine in pharmaceutical tablets.
