Comunidades anfitrionas, turistas y arqueólogos: un equilibrio difícil de lograr. Los Monumentos Nacionales en la Provincia de Salta, Argentina

In this paper the issues of management, conservation and public uses of three archaeological sites in Salta province, Argentina are analyzed. These sites are continually used, in different ways, through public policies to promote provincial tourism. However, the lack of integral programs of management has produced a negative impact on the preservation of the archaeological sites and on the development of local communities. Regarding this problem we discuss the archaeologist’s role and propose some alternative views.
