As Mulheres, a Linhagem e a Magia no Mabinogion: Um Pólo de Alian as

This paper presents an overview of female’s representation in the narratives of the Mabinogion. The different tales, taken as a whole, present us contradictory pictures of the female’s status in the Celticsocieties. These contradictions are probably due to the mix of Celtic groups to the people of the lands they conquered. The Celtic women, married or single, could play different functions including religious ones. Besides that, we should point out their important role as masters of weapons, of arts, of magic and as sexual initiators. This way, in this brief study we will try to discuss some aspects of the female’s role in the Celtic societies.
