Erotic magic beliefs and practices described in bishop Burchard von Worms′ Corrector sive medicus allow us to approach a series of problems related to early Medieval texts, especially the penitentials. The inclusion of erotic magic beliefs and practices in the above mentioned text raises the question of the existence of such phenomena in the heart of the supposedly Christianised Europe as well as the matter of the documental value of sources on superstitions. On the other hand, the evaluation of these superstitions through the penances imposed to them enlightens the ecclesiastical vision and strategy developed to face them.
