Entre a Deusa e a Bruxa: reflex es sobre o imaginário pag o em Agustina Bessa-LuísKeywords: Transgression , gender , pagans Abstract: In her literary work, the contemporary Portuguese writer Agustina Bessa-Luís challenges the canons with a reinterpretation of the established codes. The female's place in a rigidly patriarchal culture is treated in a critical manner, redefining the role of the woman in society. The struggle between Christianity and Paganism, one of the principal themes in her literary production, emphasizes women's answer to masculine oppression. By seeing a resistance to the phallocratic pressures of Christianism in the characterization and trajectory of the protagonists, our analysis emphasizes the narrative, social, and religious aspects of the rebellion contained in Agustinian writing. Believing that Celtic Heritage plays a part in the resurgence of feminine power, this article seeks to analyse the pagan element as a structural axis in the subversion proposed in the author's work.
