RODRIGUES, B. M.; SANDY, D. D.; MAIS, F.; PERNAMBUCO, C. S.; BORBA-PINHEIRO, C. J.; BESSA, A.; DANTAS, E. H. M. Perceived exertion of an upper body single-joint exercise at 50% and 80% of 1rm and it’s relation to the resting periods between the sets. Brazilian Journal of Biomotricity. v. 6, n. 3, p. 193-202, 2012. The objective to investigate the effect of one, three and five minutes rest interval in single-joint exercise with loads of 50% and 80% of 1RM on: (a)evaluation of RPE throughout the sets, (b) Comparison of RPE between the different intervals for each load, (c) comparison of RPE between different loads for each interval. 16 men (20.75 ± 2.54 years) trained six sessions held on different days on exercise machine triceps extension, in which they were instructed to perform four sets with 50% or 80% of 1RM to exhaustion at intervals of one, three or five minutes between sets, determined randomly at the end of each set was noted the number of repetitions and the evaluation of RPE. Number of repetitions and RPE at different intervals were compared with one-way ANOVA, admitted the level of p <0.05. Throughout the sets was significantly different (p <0.05), where the first set showed the lowest value in relation to subsequent grades, followed by second set, there was no difference (p> 0.05) between the third and fourth set for all the intervals and loads. Difference between the intervals (p <0.05), except in comparison to three with five minutes in both loads. Between the loads there was difference (p <0.05) for all intervals, showing higher values of RPE with lower load. We conclude that both interval and intensity influence on the RPE and increase of the values of each set and higher values with light load.
