L’évangélisation des indiens selon le jésuite Acosta dans le De procuranda indorum salute (1588)

Dès la conquête du Pérou achevée, les autorités espagnoles se préoccupèrent de l’éducation et de l’évangélisation des populations indiennes. Il s’agissait de leur inculquer de nouvelles normes, une nouvelle religion tout en les regroupant dans des villages pour mieux les contr ler. Dans ce contexte, d’éminents théologiens et juristes réfléchirent sur le meilleur moyen de convertir les autochtones et proposèrent une réflexion approfondie sur les problèmes liés à la conversion des indigènes. A cinquante ans de distance, José de Acosta et Juan de Solórzano Pereira furent parmi les plus importants et les plus influents penseurs de leur temps à se pencher sur ces questions cruciales.After the conquest of Peru, the Spanish authorities worried about the education and the evangelization of the Indian populations. It was a question of inculcating to them new standards, a new religion while grouping them together in villages to control them better. In this context, eminent theologians and jurists thought about the best mean to convert the natives and proposed a detailes reflection on the problems connected to the natives’ conversion. Into an interval of fifty years between him, José de Acosta and Juan de Solórzano Pereira were among the most important and influential thinkers of their time to look into these very important questions.
