Prote o solar para crian as: estudo preliminar sobre conhecimentos e atitudes dos pais Sun protection for children: preliminary study on the knowledge and attitudes of parents

Objetivo: Este estudo objetivou analisar os conhecimentos e atitudes dos pais quanto as práticas de prote o solar para crian as em Araxá-MG. Materiais e Métodos: Foi uma pesquisa de campo de caráter quanti-qualitativa e exploratória, realizada por meio de entrevista, no mês de agosto de 2010, com pais ou responsáveis por alunos da quarta série do ensino fundamental. Foi realizada uma estrevista semi-estruturada abrangendo medidas de fotoprote o, conhecimento dos perigos da exposi o solar e também aspectos sociais como renda familiar e escolaridade. Resultados: O período do dia de maior exposi o foi entre 10 e 16 horas com 65,5%. Quanto ao tempo de exposi o solar diário, notou-se que de três a quatro horas por dia foi o tempo mais relatado (33,3%). Quanto ao uso frequente de outras formas de prote o solar como: chapéu, boné, camisetas apropriadas, óculos, 66,7% afirmaram n o fazer uso. Quando abordados em rela o ao uso de protetor solar, 50% dos participantes relataram que as crian as n o fazem o uso de protetor solar nem quando expostas a sol intenso. Conclus o: Os hábitos, cuidados e práticas de exposi o solar dos pais para com seus filhos n o est o adequados e o conhecimento acerca do assunto cancer da pele é dito por eles insuficiente, embora tenham no es dos perigos da exposi o solar exagerada. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the knowledge and attitudes of parents about sun protection practices for children in Araxá-MG. Materials and Methods: It was a field research, with a quantitative-qualitative exploratory approach, conducted through interviews in the month of August 2010 with parents or guardians of students from the fourth grade of primary education. We conducted a semi-structured interview covering measures of sun protection, knowledge of the dangers of sun exposure and also social aspects such as family income and schooling. Results: The day period of most exposure was between 10 and 16 hours (65.5%). Concerning the amount of daily sun exposure, we found that three to four hours per day was reported more often (33.3%). Regarding the frequent use of other forms of sun protection such as hat, cap, appropriate t-shirts, glasses, 66.7% reported no use. When asked regarding the sunscreen use,50% of the participants reported that the children do not use sunscreen even when exposed to intense sun.
