Abstract:

Genderandgeneticstrainaretwoprominentvariantsthatinfluencedrugabuse.Althoughcertainsex-relatedbehavioralresponseshavebeenpreviouslycharacterizedinICRmice,littleisknownabouttheeffectsofsexonmorphine-inducedbehavioralresponsesinthisoutbredstrain.Therefore,inthisstudy,weinvestigatedthesexdifferencesofmorphine-inducedlocomotion,anxiety-likeandsocialbehaviorsinICRmice.Aftermorphineorsalineexposureforfourconsecutivedays(twicedaily),increasedlocomotion,moretimespentinthecentralarea,aswellasattenuatedrearingandself-groomingbehaviorswerefoundinmorphine-treatedfemalesinanopenfield;nodifferenceswerefoundinlocomotionandthetimespentinthecentralareabetweenmaleandfemalecontrols.Wheninteractingwiththesame-sexindividuals,femalecontrolswereengagedinmoresocialinvestigation,following,bodycontactingandself-groomingbehaviorsthancontrols;morphineexposurereducedcontactingandself-groomingbehaviorsinfemales;incontrast,theseeffectswerenotfoundinmales.TheseresultsindicatethatfemaleICRmicearemoreprosocialandaremoresusceptibletomorphineexposurethanmales.
