Abstract:

Advocates of personalized learning sometimes send the message that educators who are not part of their movement are not interested in meeting individual students’ needs. Joseph Cirasuolo argues that this is not the case. In reality, educators are part of a system that makes individualized learning difficult, if not impossible. The age-graded structure and lack of multiple pathways to tackle content fail to take into account the variations in how people learn. Proponents of personalized learning should see their colleagues as members of the same team as they work together to change the system
