Abstract:

Magnetic poly(urethane-imide) nanocomposite films were prepared by two different methods. In the first method, poly(urethane-imide) was reacted with iron oxide–silica particles magnetic and in second method synthesized poly(urethane-imide) was reacted with clay–(3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane–iron oxide particles magnetic. Poly(urethane-imide)s were prepared using polyurethane prepolymer and pyromellitic dianhydride. The polyurethane prepolymers were prepared by reacting 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate and polypropylene glycol. Magnetic clay–(3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane–iron oxide nanoparticle has been prepared as a novel catalyst. The resulting magnetic nanocomposite films were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, vibrating sample magnetometery, and scanning electron microscopy. Observed data show that 3.5?pbw magnetic nanoparticles (iron oxide–silica and clay–(3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane–iron oxide) have optimum thermal and magnetic properties when compared with pristine as well as other prepared samples containing nanocomposites less than 3.5?pbw nanoparticles
