Abstract:

Sa?etak This article deals with fragments of painted plaster with characteristics of the First style that were mostly found in the central room of the north temple (C) located on the Roman capitolium in Nesactium. The site is located about 12 km from Pula. The preserved decor belonged to the wall surface, and it mainly consists of monochrome yellow, pink, and dark red fragments, parts of hewn stones or orthostates. The imitation of marble is rare but significant because it indicates diversity in decoration. Since the fragments were found in their secondary position, and do not conjoin, it is not possible to reconstruct the decoration systems. Also, there are difficulties in connecting the painted plaster with the original building and the areas to which they belonged. Despite many unknowns, the presented fragments represent a significant example of the use of First style in a later period, not only in the area of Istria but also in the Region X of Venetia et Histria, to which Nesactium belongs
