Abstract:

Sa?etak The subject of this paper is new reading and stage setting of The Slave Girl by Hanibal Luci? in 2003, produced by Hvar Public Theatre and a director Ranka Mesari?. The paper analyzes the director’s reading of The Slave Girl as a story about ?love delay? which subsumes the themes of trauma and violence against women. The paper questions whether it is possible by shortening the original script and relying on the beauty of its expression to heal the spots that clearly symbolize the dominance of the patriarchal and trade discourses and due to which the female voice does not have the chance to witness its trauma. Furthermore, it is analyzed whether the setting of the play in Hvar’s ambient, that figures as the surreal homeland refuge, could enable the rehabilitation, i.e. whether the ?delay? is indeed the point of contemplation and healing or just an escape from the suppressed trauma
