Protective Archaeological Research of the Pit on Vodeni RatAbstract: Sa?etak Based on local divers, information in 1999 about the ceramic utensils found in the pit on Vodeni rat near the settlement Vloka on the island of Sveti Klement, near Hvar, we undertook a protective archaeologic investigation of the pit. The research was done in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture, Hvar Heritage Museum, speleological club ??piljar“ from Split and diving club ?Pelegrin“ from Hvar. The pit at Vodeni rat has already been known as a natural container of fresh and brackish water, used up to the mid 20th c. New excavations disclosed an archaeological layer which consisted of several bigger ceramic utensils, taken out to be saved from the unwanted pit visitors. One whole amphora type Lamboglia 2, one whole Late Antiquity amphora type Late Roman 1, and several bigger fragments of the Late Antiquity amphorae. The findings confirmed that the pit water had been used in Antiquity and Late Antiquity times, namely in a much wider time span than it was known previously, and that it had probably been used for local needs as well as for supplying bigger trade ships which were taking anchorage in the nearby well protected bay of Soline
