Fran Ma？urani？ in the work of Antun Gustav Mato？

Sa？etak The aim of the paper is to extract texts that point to the influence of Ma？urani？’s work in shaping of Mato？’s prose. There will be interpretations of the novels in which Mato？ creates characters according to Fran Ma？urani？: Pereci, fri？ki pereci..., Put u Ni？ta, Bura u ti？ini, in the context of Mato？’s contribution to the return of this writer to the mainstream of Croatian literature after a long silence. Some characters will be analyzed: Orlovi？ and Marjanovi？ in Putu u Ni？ta where Mato？ in portraying the figures highlights the significance of Ma？urani？’s work in Croatian literature, especially the influence on the prose in Croatian modernity, later emphasized by Croatian literary critics after the second edition of Li？？e (Li？？e i druga djela,, 1916). In this context, the criticisms and texts which used Mato？’s novels for the reconstruction of Ma？urani？’s life (Wenzelides and Bene？i？ et al.) will be highlighted. On the other hand, some motivational incentives of Ma？urani？ - Mato？ will be emphasized (eg. the dream motif in Ma？urani？’s novel I o grm i o trn in the first Mato？’s publishing of Mo？ savjesti, and the elaboration of the theme of “old maid” in Ma？urani？ and Mato？’s feuilleton Usi？elica and others)
