Teachers’ Opinions on the Problems Faced by the Refugee Students in Preschool Education Institutions

Abstract:

The aim of this research is to get the opinions of the preschool education teachers who have refugee students in their classes about the problems the students face in the education process and to find out what kind of solutions they offer to solve the problems they face. In this study, which is designed as a case study, criterion sampling method and convenience sampling method are used. The criterion determined in the sampling method was that the preschool teachers who participated in the study had worked with at least one refugee student for et least one semester. Semi-structured interview was used to collect data. After the literature review, the interview questions were presented to expert opinion and then a pilot interview was conducted. Later, interviews were held with the teachers on different days and hours. In order to increase the reliability in the research, direct quotations and participant confirmation were included. In the analysis of the data, the content analysis method was applied, and an analysis was conducted by a different expert in the process to increase the credibility in the research. As a result of the data obtained from the interviews with the teachers, it was found out that refugee students had difficulties in the classroom environment due to their differences in language and culture, they were faced with difficulties because they could not communicate with their friends, and they had problems in understanding the activities and following the guidelines
