Thinking Through Art: Water as an Example

Water has a vital importance for all beings. It is also an essential source of inspiration in art. Not only does water catch attention due to its beauty, but it also transmits messages that reflect a deeper look into nature. This study, which is based on the premise that art makes our environment better by changing it and making it more livable, intends to question the theme of water through art. Besides contributing to the development of reasoning and imagination, art also constitutes of “thinking while doing,” gaining knowledge, discovering and asking questions. Sometimes it is important to make the problem visible instead of offering a solution to it. That’s why the aim of this study is to use water as an object in art and to think about water, and to make others think about it, in relation to the “water” problem which is one of the disquieting results of technological advancements threatening all living beings. In this study, for which students from different disciplines such as psychology, mathematics, linguistics and education have volunteered, art’s language and elements are used in application. The main theme and material of these applications are water.
