The First History of Psychiatry in Turkish: The First Chapter of Avni Mahmud’s Book Muhtasar Emraz-？ Akliyye

Avni Mahmud Bey served as a psychiatrist and head of physicians at the Topta？？ Asylum in the last years of Ottoman Empire and he became one of the most important figures in The History of Turkish Psychiatry. The importance of Avni Mahmud Bey for our history is not limited to his administration, he also contributed in his field by leaving two books which are titled Muhtasar Emraz-？ Akliyye (Summary of Mental Ilness-1910) and Terbiye-i Akliyye (Education of Mentality-1916/19). In this article, the first book of the author, which was also the subject of other studies, will be briefly examined. Then, a criticism will be made on the originality of the first chapter entitled Tarih-i Tababeti Akliyye (History of Psychiatry). At the end of this article, the first part of this book, which has not been transliterated into Latin Letters before, and its contents will be attached
