The Sound “Dad” in Quran Recitation: Its Origin and Characteristic

The sound “dad” is an unique sound in Arabic language. Thus, Arabic language differs from other languages and it is named as “Language of Dad”. The origin of the sound has been a topic which is one of the long-standing controversies. This article aims to analyse the sound “dad” scientifically within two parts: First one is to analyse the sound from a historical point of view by trying to provide evidence whether the sound that was used in the first period in history is still in use or not today. Second one is to analyse the origin and characteristics of the sound “dad” by determining the right way of reciting it based on Islamic laws and according to Islamic scholars
