Abstract:

Acute tear of the Achilles tendon is the most common tendon injury around the ankle. There is no consensus on what method is more effective in the treatment of Achilles tendon rupture. The aim of th is study is to compare the functional results of two different techniques in the treatment of achilles tendon rupture. Between 2010 and 2017, 31 patients who had undergone open surgery and percutaneous surgery because of achilles rupture were included in the study. In the last exa minations of the patients, the range of motion of the ankle, the duration of return to work and sports were evaluated. Functional evaluation of patients The American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Association (AOFAS) scoring system was used to evaluate the ankle joint. Of the 31 patients included in the study, 29 were male and 2 were female. 26 of them were sports injuries, 3 of them after traffic accident, and 2 of them after a simple fall. 18 patients underwent open surgical technique (Group 1) and 13 patients underwent percutaneous surgical technique (Group 2). There was no statistical difference between the two groups according to AOFAS scoring system. It was concluded that there was no significant difference between the open surgical technique and the percutaneous surgical technique in the Achilles tendon tear
