PREVALENCE of Pediculus humanus capitis in CHILDREN in OZALP DISTRICT of VAN

This study was conducted to investigate the prevalence of P. humanus capitis in children aging 7-14 years old in ？zalp district of Van. The total 1313 children, 596 (45.39%) females and 717 (54.61%) males were examined, performing the home scan. The whole hair of children, especially the neck and back of ears, were examined for eggs, nymph, and imago of P. humanus capitis. The samples taken from children were put in the small bottles containing 70% ethyl alcohol with 5% glycerin and examined in the Parasitology Laboratory of the Veterinary Faculty, Yuzuncu Y？l University. Parents and children were asked questions and in line with the received information, family ’s socio-economic status, hygiene habit, and physical environmental conditions were determined. The imago and / or eggs of P. humanus capitis were encountered in 24 (4.02%) of 596 females and 3 (0.41%) of 717 male, totally in 27 (2.05%) of 1313 ch ildren. At the evaluation of findings, in the pediculosis prevalence, was detected to be effective sex, hair length, the frequency of bathing, socio- economic status and physical environmental conditions
