AN EVALUATION ABOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT DATE OF THE ANATOLIAN SELJUQS

At the end of the Battle of Manzikert, the certain defeat of Byzantine Empire led to serious events for both sides. The Byzantine Empire, instead of trying to remove Turks from Anatolia, followed up the policy that not to lose their own land. However, Turks utilized the absence of authority in Anatolia and invaded all the way to the coasts of Istanbul in a short span of time. During that time, Seljuqian noble family member Suleyman Shah, who was being involved in activities in North Syria, led his Turkmen courtier and gained ground till the west coasts of Anatolia. He assigned Iznik as their capital city which had great strategic importance. In this study, it will be revealed the matter of the date when Iznik had been assigned as the capital of Anatolian Seljuqs by investigating the eastern and western sources
