Views of Middle School Students on Teaching Aids Used in Social Studies Courses

The materials are of great importance for the efficiency of the teaching and learning process. Students who are important elements of education process, what they think about the materials used in this process is valuable. This study is designed to reveal the opinions of secondary school students on the teaching materials used in social studies lesson. The research was conducted in November 2018. A case study pattern was used in the study prepared in accordance with the qualitative paradigm. The data of the study were obtained by semi-structured interview form prepared by the researcher. There are seven open-ended questions in the interview form. The study group consists of 30 secondary school students. The data obtained from the participants were analyzed with descriptive analysis technique. As a result of the data obtained, it was found that most of the students had little or no use of teaching materials in social studies courses and that secondary school students had a limited understanding of the teaching material concept. At the end of the research, materials which are not in the schools of secondary school students were determined. In addition, the materials they want to be used in social studies lessons are also determined
