Aristotle’s Four Causes Theory in the Context of the Philosophical Foundations of the Scientif ic ExplanationKeywords: Aristoteles, Bilimsel A??klama, Tan?tlama, Bilgi Abstract: According to Aristotle, “Wisdom is knowledge about certain principles and causes”, and the one that provides it is the logical method which is called the apodeiksis. This concept of Aristotle’s theory of knowledge is a summary of three concepts; knowledge (epistêmê), logical method (ap?deiksis) and cause (aitia) can be understood as the essential elements of the certitude knowledge, which can be termed as precise knowledge (not absolute) -the scientific explanation- at present. The fact that Aristotle believes that there is harmony between existence and knowledge, and that the explanation is directly related to the knowledge, makes it necessary to mention these three concepts. When it is taken into account that the term translated into science is an epistême, it is understood that this is ‘conceptual’ knowledge of the whole world, and when such premises are correct and primitive, such reasoning becomes scientific knowledge. According to Aristotle, science is made within an axiomatic deductive system. That’s what it means; several principal principles, or axioms, are chosen, the proven bases of which are proved to be correct, and the conclusions are reached logically from axiom
