The Concept of “Turk” in the Life of Muhammad Iqbal

Abstract:

As it is known, one of the most important cultures of the world is Turkish culture. Muhammad Iqbal had the opportunity to meet various extensions of Turkish culture beginning the first stages of his life. His acquiantance with Turkish culture took place, especially during Abdulhamit the Second, the period of the ?ttihat Terakki and during the activities of the Te?kilat-? Mahsusa in India. The concepts such as the Ottoman State, the caliph and the Islam were started to be indirectly discussed in the Indian public opinion, the unfavorable attitudes of the British against these concepts aroused opposite thoughts and feelings and the wars accelerated this situation. Muhammad Iqbal, who felt the anti-British reactions which was caused by Canakkale wars, got involved in various activities. Iqbal struggled for the awakening of Indian Muslims by referring the courage of Ottoman Turks against the British. This attitude of Iqbal towards the power of the British empire was questioned in its own geography for the first time. The end of the First World War and the beginning of the national struggle under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal reinforced the positive attitude of ?kbal to Turkish, he showed a great deal of enthusiasm and excitement against the British imperialism and supported National struggle. Iqbal was one of the hardest-working invidual in terms of both thought and deed. The personality of Ottoman Turk is its own personality, his goal, became target of the Indian Muslims and his success was the success of oppressed nation
