Problems of Disabled University Students During Their Educational Life: Konya Sample

The aim of this study is to reveal the problems faced by disabled individuals who are studying in state universities (Necmettin Erbakan University, Selcuk University) within the borders of Konya Province. This research is a qualitative research and was completed by using semistructured interview technique. The population of the study consisted of visual, hearing and orthopedically impaired students who were continuing their education in Sel？uk University and Necmettin Erbakan University. The sample of the study consisted of 5 visual, 5 hearing and 5 orthopedic disabled students, representing the population. Interview questions were prepared by the researcher. Interviews were conducted face-to-face during the 30-minute period between April and May 2018. Verbal consent was obtained from the participants for voice recording. This research is limited to 15 disabled students attending state universities in Konya Province. The findings of the study showed that the problems faced by disabled individuals in their lives also continued during the university education period. The main problems of the students with disabilities can be listed as: the physical and architectural structural problems; the academicians and not disabled students who are the stakeholders of the education process; and problems of transportation and accommodation facilities of universities
