Abstract:

The Sufism idea, which began to emerge in the 9th century, showed itself as of the 12th century with the formation of religious cults. After this period, it was felt in the whole Islamic world, including Anatolia. These religious cults, which were effective in the lives of the society and the state, played an important role in the completion of the spiritual development of Muslims who were active for centuries and in ensuring the social peace and solidarity in areas where the state could not reach. The Malamatism movement, which emerged as a branch of the Bairami Cult in the 15th century in the Ottoman Territory, was called as the Bairami Malamatism (Melametiyye-i Bayramiyye) in ongoing centuries; and continued until Mohammed Nuru’l-Arabi that was accepted as the second period in the historical development of the cult. In the present study, first of all, information was given about the terms “malamat”, “malami” and “malamatism”. Then, the Malami attitude of Sayyed Abd ol-Qader Balkhi, who was one of the sheikhs of the Sheikh Murad Buhari Dervish Lodge, and who was known as “Qutb” among the Second Period Malamatism in the period that covered the late quarter of the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century after his arrival in Istanbul in 1861
