The Formation of Reality Perception in Historial Series: A Semiological Analysis of the Series Dirilis: Ertugrul

The TV series called ¨Dirilis: Ertugrul¨, which started to be telecasted at the channel TRT 1 on December of 2014 and is ongoing with its 5th season, this series marked the last five years with its story, characters, music, production progress, depicted period in it, viewership and its references to the actual life. Additionally to this, even the set visitors of the series became a current issue of the country. As in every message, the message of the series ¨Dirilis: Ertugrul¨ effected the formation of the reality perception. This formation was provided by indicators. ？n this study we aim to analyze the indicators which were used in the series Dirilis: Ertugrul from the aspect of the semiology and find meanings related to it by observing the message and content of that indicators in regard of technical and cultural codes and analyzing the contribution of the same indicators to the formation of the reality perception. For this purpose, one episode from each four seasons which are completed and the 5th season which is ongoing; and one scenes from each episode was chiocelessly/ randomly determined to put them to the analysis from the aspect of semiology. In the study, Charles Sanders Pierce's understanding of sign based on icon, index, symbol and Roland Barthes's interpretation process was adopted. Saussure's approach to the social aspect of language has also been used in some places. While series create a reality through the indicators and place it in the perception, producing the twins of this reality in the eyes of the indicators -in other words- replacing reality by another reality starts the hyperreality. Behind this created reality there are technical codes and also side meanings as well as cultural codes. In the series of ¨Dirili？: Ertu？rul¨, the formation of the perception of reality is provided with the help of the indicators which include historical and cultural references. In the production and interpretation processes of these indicators technical codes have been effective besides the cultural codes. There are a large number of references to ¨Turkish Laws¨, ¨Turkish State Tradition¨, the ideal of ¨？lai Kalimatullah¨, the idea of ¨Turkish Universe Domination¨, ¨？slamic Belief¨ and ¨？slamic Law¨
