Turkish Words In Pomace

Pomaks who mainly continue their living in Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece are a Muslim community and their origins are based on Cumans. The community speaks Pomace which is their mother tongue. Because of living in different places, there are different dialects in their language. Thus, while some scholars claims that there are three dialects in Pomace, others say there are five. Pomace is generally shaped according to Slav grammar rules and consists of lots of Slavic words. But the number of Turkish words in Pomaks is too high to be underestimated. Pomaks, which contain a wide culture with their pesnas (songs), clothing and food, continue to keep their language and traditions still alive today. However, Pomace is gradually being forgotten due to various reasons such as decrease in the number of speakers, variability of time, and increasing the influence of the dominant language. These two are among the factors that accelerate this process. In this article Pomaks and their history and language will be introduced. Later on Turkish words in Pomace and the foreign words that are passed to Pomace in Turkish will be identified and grouped according to their fields. However, in this study, Pomace words were identified by making use of the dictionary created by the Pomaks in the Internet (Internet) environment, as there were no written sources on Pomak language whose number of speakers decreased gradually
